“Let’s find you a home!” 10,529 West Aussies call for a new 12-court stadium!

The e-Petition for a new 12 court stadium for Perth has amassed a record-breaking final total of 10,529 signatures, making it the largest e-petition to be received by the Legislative Assembly and the second largest in the history of WA Parliament.

Members of the Perth Reds Volleyball Association joined together on the steps of Parliament House with members of the Perth Basketball Association (Redbacks) for the presentation of the e-Petition to the Member for South Perth, Geoff Baker MLA. The petition was presented to Mr Baker on behalf of the facilitating member of the e-petition, Hannah Beazley MLA, who presented the petition to the Legislative Assembly on Thursday morning.

Together: Members of the Perth Reds Volleyball Association and Perth Basketball Association (Redbacks) joined with Member for South Perth, Geoff Baker MLA for the presentation of the e-Petition.

Perth Reds Volleyball Association President Anthony Meo was proud to join with members of the Reds and Redbacks for the presentation.

“The Perth Reds Volleyball Association thanks Mr Geoff Baker MLA for his words of support on receiving the Perth Basketball Association (Redbacks) public e-petition on behalf of facilitating member, the Hon Hannah Beazley MLA. We are pleased to stand side by side with our friends from the Perth Redbacks for this important moment, which is the culmination of several weeks of public campaigning and many years of our two clubs working closely on the issue of a shortage of courts for indoor sports in Perth,” Meo said.

“10,529 signatures on this e-Petition is an incredible achievement. Perth Reds thanks our amazing community for how they have rallied and worked with us to support this outcome. We’re so proud of what we have achieved together. We thank everyone from our Reds community, the Redbacks community and everyone in the wider WA public who has supported this e-Petition and our vision,” Meo said.

“We are also incredibly thankful for the tremendous support provided by our Patrons and local Members of Parliament in Member for South Perth Geoff Baker MLA and Member for Victoria Park Hannah Beazley MLA who have supported us throughout this journey,” Meo added.

Supporting the Courts: Member for South Perth, Geoff Baker MLA alongside Perth Reds Board Members Peter Robertson, Josh Court and President, Anthony Meo.

Perth Basketball Association (Redbacks) President Anthony Nixon was delighted to present the e-Petition and acknowledged the Perth Reds for their support.

“The community have united behind supporting a new 12 court mixed use indoor court facility located in the inner metro south in Kensington that will provide for the 500,000 residents that live within a 20 minute drive of the much needed indoor sporting facility proposal,” Nixon added.

“I would especially like to acknowledge the Perth Reds Volleyball Association who have worked closely with us across codes for several years and who have thrown their full support behind the Perth Basketball Association with the petition,” Nixon said.

As the public campaign of the e-petition drew to a close with the presentation of the petition, Perth Reds Volleyball Association looks forward to continuing our discussions regarding the possibility of a new stadium for Perth.
